Bose Adds Auracast Support to QuietComfort Ultra Headphones Gen 2

Bose has started rolling out a firmware update that brings Auracast support to its QuietComfort Ultra Headphones Gen 2. This update lets these headphones use Bluetooth LE Audio’s Auracast feature, which allows one audio source to broadcast sound to many receivers at once.

The update, version 10.12.12, has been quietly available since early September 2026. It adds Auracast in beta form, along with other improvements like 5.1 spatial audio with head tracking on some Android devices, better game and chat audio balance over USB-C, and improved USB compatibility for calls.

With Auracast, these Bose headphones can receive shared audio broadcasts from compatible devices. This technology works a bit like a radio broadcast: a single source can send audio to unlimited headphones or speakers nearby. It’s handy for places like airports, theatres, or even at home when you want to share TV audio without disturbing others.

So far, only a few headphone makers like Sony, JBL, Samsung, and Sennheiser have included Auracast. Bose’s entry is notable because it’s a well-known brand, and this update makes Auracast more accessible to everyday users.

Bose says they plan to bring Auracast support to more models soon, with a beta firmware expected for the standard QuietComfort Headphones Gen 2 next. The new Auracast feature works with compatible Android and Windows devices, though Bose hasn’t specified exactly which models.

This update is part of Bose’s effort to improve how people connect and share audio wirelessly. While Auracast is still new, it could change how we experience group listening, public announcements, and private audio sharing in the near future.
