Meta Unveils New VR Glasses and Expands Smart Glasses Range with AI Features

Meta has revealed a new pair of virtual reality (VR) glasses, along with an expanded line of smart glasses featuring artificial intelligence. The VR glasses, announced at Meta Connect 2026, weigh about 100 grams—roughly the weight of a deck of cards—and are designed to be worn comfortably for hours. They will be available in spring 2027, priced at just under $1,300 in the US.

The design splits the device into two parts: the glasses themselves, which contain the display and sensors, and a separate pocket-sized unit that holds the computing power, battery, and storage. This keeps the glasses light and less bulky than previous VR headsets.

The glasses include a high-resolution 5K micro-OLED display and support hand and eye controls, letting users interact without extra devices. They also have spatial audio built in, and offer multiple virtual screens to create a personal workspace anywhere. Entertainment is a big focus, with plans to stream 3D movies and immersive live sports events, including partners like Disney+, ESPN, and TNT Sports.

One standout feature is hologram-based video calling, which creates a lifelike digital version of the user for hands-free chats. This works across popular calling apps such as WhatsApp and Zoom.

Alongside the VR glasses, Meta introduced new smart glasses under the Ray-Ban brand. These include an audio-only model starting at $349 and a Gen 3 camera-equipped model from $449. By the end of 2026, Meta aims to offer over 100 different styles of AI glasses, expanding availability worldwide.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg highlighted the company’s commitment to AI, with a personal AI assistant called Muse integrated into the glasses to help with tasks like booking appointments or finding flights. This push comes despite ongoing concerns about privacy and the use of wearable technology.

On the financial side, BMO Capital Markets kept a cautious but positive view on Meta’s stock, maintaining a Market Perform rating and a price target of $580. They noted the VR and AI product announcements as positive but expect similar competitive products soon.
