Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns Open Play for Team USA at Presidents Cup

The 2026 Presidents Cup got underway on Thursday at Medinah Country Club in Illinois. The first match saw Team USA’s Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns paired against Min Woo Lee and Sungjae Im from the International Team.
Captains Brandt Snedeker for the USA and Geoff Ogilvy for the International Team revealed their pairings the day before. Scheffler and Burns were chosen to lead off the competition in the opening four-ball match, which began at 12:35 p.m. Eastern Time.
In four-ball matches, each player plays their own ball, and the better score between the partners counts for the team on each hole. This format often brings exciting and fast-paced action as teammates try to support one another while playing aggressively.
Scheffler, currently the world’s top-ranked player, and Burns, who had a strong showing at the last Presidents Cup, have teamed up before. However, they have yet to secure a win together in previous team events, holding a record without victories. Both will be eager to improve that in this match.
The USA has been dominant in recent Presidents Cups, winning the last 10 contests and holding an all-time record of 13 wins, 1 loss, and 1 tie. This year’s event features five opening matches, with other notable pairings including Cameron Young and Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas and Jackson Koivun, Wyndham Clark and Collin Morikawa, and Patrick Cantlay and Chris Gotterup.
While Team USA aims to extend its winning streak, the International Team captain remains optimistic about their chances, hoping to challenge the Americans on home soil.
At the time of reporting, no official results from the opening match were available. Fans can follow the Presidents Cup live coverage on Sky Sports Golf for updates throughout the event.
