Tom Curry commits to Sale Sharks with contract extension

Tom Curry, the England international flanker, has signed a new contract to stay with Sale Sharks. The deal will keep him at the club until at least the end of the 2027-28 season.

Curry, 28, has been with Sale since making his senior debut as a teenager in 2016. Over the years, he has become a key player for both Sale Sharks and England, earning 71 caps for his country and representing the British & Irish Lions.

Sale Sharks’ Director of Rugby, Alex Sanderson, described Curry as fundamental to the team’s core. Sanderson said the extension was agreed after honest talks, with Curry wanting to remain part of the club’s group and contribute fully while his body holds up.

In recent seasons, Curry faced some serious injury challenges. He underwent hip surgery in early 2024 and was told his career could be at risk. Yet he made a strong comeback, returning to top-level rugby just months later and even having a stem-cell procedure to help prolong his playing days.

Sanderson praised Curry’s recovery, saying he is currently as fit and mobile as ever, with no signs of wear and tear. The club sees him as a key piece in their plans for the coming seasons.

The new deal comes as Sale Sharks prepare for the 2026/27 Gallagher Premiership season. The club has brought in several new players, including Courtney Lawes, who will join Curry in the back row. Curry himself spoke recently about the healthy competition in the squad and his aim to bring both strong defence and physicality to the team.

Curry expressed pride in staying with Sale Sharks, the club he has supported his whole life. He acknowledged the hard work done over the past decade to build the team and said he is eager to help push the club further.
