Alaska Airlines to Boost Flights at Seattle’s Paine Field by 50% by Mid-2027

Alaska Airlines is planning to make it easier to fly from Seattle’s Paine Field Airport by adding 50% more seats starting this fall and continuing through the summer of 2027. This means more flights and more choices for people living around Seattle and the Puget Sound area.
One of the biggest changes will be a new nonstop route from Paine Field to San Jose, California. Beginning April 14, 2027, this route will run twice daily on smaller Horizon Air planes called Embraer 175s. This will connect Seattle with the South Bay and the wider San Francisco Bay Area, a popular spot for both business and leisure travellers.
Besides San Jose, Alaska Airlines is increasing service to several other West Coast cities. Flights to Los Angeles will double to twice daily, and both will use larger Boeing 737 jets. Portland will also get two flights a day, offering more flexibility for quick trips in the Pacific Northwest. The airline plans to add more seats as well on routes to San Diego and San Francisco.
This expansion is part of Alaska Airlines’ effort to strengthen its presence around Seattle while offering more convenient travel options close to home. Paine Field complements the bigger Seattle-Tacoma International Airport by providing a smaller, easier-to-navigate terminal for many travellers.
Since commercial flights started at Paine Field in 2019, the airport has been growing steadily. The terminal can handle up to 24 departures a day, which is much smaller than the nearby SeaTac airport. The smaller size means less hassle for passengers, with perks like valet parking, fast security, and a more relaxed lounge atmosphere.
With this planned growth, more travellers in the Seattle area will have easy access to popular West Coast destinations without needing to go to the larger airport. Tickets for the new San Jose flights are already available on Alaska’s website.
