Patrick Mahomes Shines with Perfect Play-Action Passing in Chiefs’ 24-10 Win Over Dolphins

The Kansas City Chiefs kept their unbeaten start to the season with a 24-10 victory over the Miami Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday. Patrick Mahomes was a key figure again, showing great skill especially when using play-action passes.

Mahomes completed 20 of 24 passes for 246 yards and two touchdowns, helping the Chiefs improve to 3-0. One of the highlights was an early 48-yard catch by tight end Travis Kelce right after a play-action fake, setting the tone for the game. Kelce also scored the final touchdown late in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

Running back Kenneth Walker III contributed two touchdowns himself—one rushing and one receiving—adding to the Chiefs’ offensive strength. The Dolphins fought hard but couldn’t keep up, falling to 0-3 for the season.

A standout detail was Mahomes’ excellent performance on play-action passes. According to ESPN Research, he completed all 14 of his play-action attempts for 201 yards and a touchdown. Other sources, including the Chiefs’ official report, show a slightly different stat line but agree he was very effective using this tactic. Mahomes said after the game that the running game and play-action plays were opening up the offence a lot, crediting his team’s backs and offensive line for their work.

Despite some moments where the game slowed down, the Chiefs’ defence kept Miami’s scoring limited, and a crucial defensive stop late in the game helped maintain the lead. The win keeps the Chiefs in strong form as they prepare for their next match against the Las Vegas Raiders.
