Hackers Claim to Have Stolen Data on All FBI Employees; FBI Investigates

A well-known hacking group says it has broken into FBI systems and taken personal information on nearly all FBI staff and job applicants. The FBI is looking into these claims but has not yet confirmed what happened.
The group, called ShinyHunters, says it accessed the FBI’s job application website and stole sensitive data, including names, roles, badge numbers, home addresses, phone numbers, and details about employees’ spouses. They shared a sample of about 5,000 records with media outlets, which appears to show real information.
The FBI’s job portals, including the main careers site and the special agent application page, have been offline since the incident. The bureau says it is working with third-party providers to find out how the breach happened and to reduce any risks.
Reports note that some of the stolen data includes information about employees involved in intelligence, surveillance, human intelligence, and secret investigative work. This adds a worrying national security angle, as exposing these details could put agents and their families at risk of harassment or worse.
ShinyHunters says their attack was in response to an FBI warning issued earlier this year that described the group as criminals who exaggerate their access and harass victims. The hackers deny those claims and say they are not motivated by money or extortion.
The FBI has not verified the hackers’ claims or confirmed the full extent of the data stolen. It is also not clear yet whether the breach happened directly through FBI systems or through third-party services.
This is one of several cyber incidents involving the FBI this year. While details remain sketchy, the situation is serious enough for the FBI to be actively investigating and working to protect its employees and applicants.
