Walmart’s advertising empire is booming. Here’s what it could target next.. There are some opportunities for the company to tackle in streaming, but perhaps not as many as once hoped when Walmart acquired Vizio.
What happened
There’s no lighting or monitoring a flame, no need to keep adjusting the heat, and no need for a turning peel, bulky gas bottle or constant use of an infrared (IR) thermometer (although you may still want one – read on for details). Equipped with four presets – Artisan, Thin Crust, New York, Pan – plus a custom setting to enable you to bake your pizza exactly how you like it, the Ninja Artisan is as effortless as can be, even next to the simplest plug-and-play gas oven.
Photograph: Rachel Ogden/The GuardianI tested the Ninja Artisan electric outdoor pizza oven & air fryer MO201UK in the same way I test all pizza ovens I review for the Filter, although the temperature range here is different. And because there’s no flame and the heat is evenly distributed, there’s no need to even rotate your pizza mid-cook. I was caught out with my first pizza, so I shortened the cook time for the next.
The full three-minute cook burned my pizza, whereas reducing the time produced a well-risen crust with just a slight char on one edge. There’s also extensive cleaning and care advice for prolonging the oven’s lifespan.

Photograph: Daniella LucasThieves target mail order sales as Pokémon card prices soarAs one card recently sold for £12m, opportunistic thefts have surged – envelopes are being opened en route, costing small businesses thousandsPokémon’s success over the last 30 years has seen it grow from a much-loved Game Boy classic, to a world-dominating brand with TV shows, spin-off games, toys and even a theme park.
Packs get snapped up after release so quickly it’s now almost impossible to find them in shops, and a booming resale market is driving the hobby into murky waters. One card recently sold for an eye-watering £12m, and an increasing number of people have gotten into the collecting business on the hunt for huge profits, leading to a rise in thefts targeting card shops. More recently though, some small businesses have reported that their sales have been hit by thieves targeting envelopes within Royal Mail, leading to thousands in lost revenue.
What has been reported
Then there was a second, and then a third, and then there were seven – all of them from the same batch shipped on the same day. Thyer considers it clear that this was a targeted theft rather than a coincidence. “We’d previously had one sent to France turn up the same way a couple of weeks before, but I put it down to the buyer taking a bit of a chance that I’d have no way to hold them to account for pretending there had been an issue.
We investigate concerns thoroughly and take action where necessary, including working with law enforcement. ” Investigations are still ongoing; in the meantime, businesses must choose between risking theft and damaged reputation for their stores, or halting online sales and losing revenue. With a new, highly sought-after 30th anniversary Pokémon card set due to release this month, retailers are already anticipating an increase in scalper and reselling activity, leading to even more potential for thieves to target those selling cards online.
Photograph: Rockstar GamesGrand Theft Auto VI is a phenomenon – but there is much more to the gaming worldAs Rockstar’s blockbuster prepares to dominate the headlines, it’s time for the mainstream media to stop treating video games as a novelty that needs explainingPredictably, the Grand Theft Auto VI “extended look” which premiered on Netflix last week was a success for all involved. According to data collated by Eurogamer, more than 9,000 Twitch streamers covered the show leading to 5,227,798 hours of viewing there alone.
Call me cynical, but I suspect the coverage of GTA VI in the media over the next few weeks will follow a familiar pattern.
What happens next
Perhaps a few will try to reignite the hoary old “violence in video games” debate, there will be presenters laughingly admitting they’ve not touched a game since Pac-Man, rolling their eyes and wallowing in their ignorance, in a way they never would while discussing any other art form. And that will be that, job done for another decade … or until there’s a funny story about Pokémon. Because, when the next video game story comes up in the wake of Rockstar’s behemoth, TV and radio editors and producers will be thinking, “Oh, we covered games last month. ”The thing is, GTA is a phenomenon – it looks gorgeous, it looks vast, and it will sell many millions of copies.
Mainstream media is still at the stage where every single games story that does make it to TV or radio has to do the job of explaining and justifying the whole industry. And most importantly, there is life, love, art and brilliance beyond Grand Theft Auto and beyond the coming storm of hype. There are also worries about the company’s culture and job security.
