Gibbs and Smith-Njigba Shine While St. Brown and Taylor Struggle in NFL Week 3

Week 3 of the NFL season brought some standout performances and some quieter days for key players. Jahmyr Gibbs and Jaxon Smith-Njigba were the big winners, showing why they’re rising stars, while Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jonathan Taylor had less impact than expected.

Gibbs was a powerhouse for the Detroit Lions in their 31-24 win over the New York Jets. He carried the ball 20 times for 99 yards and scored two rushing touchdowns. On top of that, he caught seven passes for 65 yards and a receiving touchdown. His three-touchdown game was a major factor in the Lions’ victory and pushed him to second place in franchise history for rushing touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Seattle Seahawks’ wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba put on a dazzling display despite his team’s narrow 33-31 loss to the Washington Commanders. He caught 10 passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns. Notably, Smith-Njigba has now recorded at least 120 receiving yards and a touchdown in each of the first three games this season, joining only a few legendary players with such a start.

On the quieter side, Amon-Ra St. Brown, also with the Lions, caught four passes for just 19 yards but did find the end zone once, marking his third straight game with a touchdown. However, his yardage was his lowest this season, suggesting a dip in production.

Jonathan Taylor, running back for the Indianapolis Colts, had a subdued game in their 19-17 win over the Houston Texans. Taylor rushed 23 times but managed only 68 yards and caught two passes for four yards. This total of 72 yards was his lowest this season, and his yards per carry also fell to a season low.

These performances could influence fantasy football fans and NFL watchers as the season progresses, highlighting who is heating up and who might be facing challenges. For now, Gibbs and Smith-Njigba are clearly players to watch.
