CEOs, including Anthropic's Dario Amodei, OpenAI's Sam Altman and Elon Musk, calling for the industry to slow down because of the dangers rapid advances in the technology pose. An agreement between the US and China to regulate AI development is "next to impossible", says Chang Jun Yan, an assistant professor with the military studies programme at Singapore's S Rajaratnam School of International Studies. Since then top industry bosses, such as Dario Amodei, have called for a slowdown and more regulation.
"If China establishes a durable lead in frontier AI, this will not be viewed in Washington as losing a technology race," says Chasen Nevett, managing director at Hong Kong-based firm, Forani Investments. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Demis Hassabis, the chair of Google DeepMind, and Elon Musk have all welcomed Amodei's proposal. "The Trump Administration has stopped AI 'people' from doing bad, or potentially bad, 'things,' like Dario (Anthropic! ), who is now pretending to be a 'perfect little angel' – and we will continue to do so!
