DeepSeek V4 Disrupts AI Market With Low Costs and Open Access

The AI race is heating up fast, and a new challenger is making serious noise. DeepSeek has launched DeepSeek V4 Preview, aiming directly at top models built by OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google DeepMind.

DeepSeek V4 stands out immediately for one key reason. It’s fully open-source. Unlike ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, developers can freely download, modify, and deploy it under an MIT license.

The model comes in two versions. DeepSeek-V4-Pro runs at 1.6 trillion parameters, while DeepSeek-V4-Flash offers a lighter 284 billion parameter setup. Both are designed to handle advanced AI tasks at scale.

Performance looks strong but not dominant yet. Early benchmarks suggest it competes with systems like GPT-5.5 and Claude Opus 4.7, though it still trails slightly on major leaderboards.

Pricing is where DeepSeek changes everything. It costs $1.74 per million input tokens and $3.48 per million output tokens. That’s dramatically lower than rivals.

The difference is huge in real use. Tasks that cost over $30 on competing platforms can drop to around $5. That’s roughly 85% cheaper, giving DeepSeek a major edge for businesses scaling AI.

This move also reflects a bigger shift. Chinese AI firms are focusing on affordability and open access, while U.S. companies continue building closed, premium systems.

DeepSeek already proved its efficiency with earlier models. V4 pushes that strategy further and puts pressure on the entire industry.

The big question now is sustainability. If DeepSeek maintains this balance of cost and performance, it could reshape how AI is adopted worldwide.
